Choosing A Mountain Bike To Electrify – Part 2

This is a continuation of Choosing a Mountain Bike to Electrify – Part 1 Suspension Frame material- most e-bike gurus prefer steel frames over aluminum. Why? Steel is stronger and does not fatigue the same as aluminium. Aluminum fatigues and snaps and breaks. At high speeds this can be fatal. Remember most mountain bikes were designed to be pedaled at maximum 20mph. An e-bike can be considerably faster than that. Most e-bikes can go 20mph without pedaling, and some can

Twike Electric Bike/ Pedal Car

Twike vehicles are human electric hybrid vehicles built for 2 people and their cargo. They are a unique combination of a an electric vehicle and a pedal powered vehicle in one. By using the pedal mode, the driver can lengthen the range of the vehicle and keep control by means of the electric-computerized regenerative braking system. The vehicles are surprisingly lightweight as they constructed of primarily plastic and aluminum components. These innovative half-ton vehicles can be powered by a 3.3

EH Line Street Racer Electric Bike

The Austrian-made EH Street Racer is an interesting variant on the electric bike model. Instead of a mountain bike, they have decided on a  monocoque aluminium road bike frame similar to what the Optibike uses. Even with a 48 volt 9-Ah battery tucked neatly into this slick frame, this bike weighs in at only 38 pounds, one of the lightest electric bikes on the market with any decent range. You should be able to get 20-30 miles off such a battery pack. The bike uses

Tire Selection for an E-bike

Your tires on your e-bike are an integral part of your electric bike equation. The tires are the part of the e-bike that connect you to the ground. They provide traction and suspension, and affect the way the bike feels and handles. First  regarding tire diameter…the reason most pedal bicycles have 26 inch wheels is to increase the gearing of the bike.  Other than gearing, the taller tires do not make a big difference on ride quality, stability or ride

Grace E-bike; Designer of Smart E-bike

The German made Grace Ebike is simplistic in design and yet beautiful in its simplicity. A bion-x hub motor pumped up to 1300 watts drives the bikes at speeds of up to 35mph. The bike features a cnc frame wtih the batteries built into the bike frame tubing.  A slick belt drive (but single speed), a custom front headlight, a motorcycle style center kick stand, and nice bicycle components all the way around. Recently Grace teamed up with Mercedes benz

Smart E-bike Steps to the Plate

Smart bike has taken a big step into the electric bike market and  ”looks”  to be trying to hit it out of the park with its line of new e-bikes. (Update: Bike is in production; take look at our Smart Ebike factory floor story)  However because they have chosen a 250 watt hub motor, their attempt looks like it will be more like a  bunt -dash to first base rather  than a home run.  The company smart is owned by Daimler Mg,

Smart Brabus E-bike

The Smart Brabus  e-bike made its debut at the Geneva Motorshow 2012 this month. It has a 500 watt hub motor, enough power to hit about 25mph. This is double the power of the regular smart bike which has a very under powered 250 watt hub motor. It looks like the smart will come with a bionx  dash board with a custom made iphone holder added on. The bionx systems is a widely available pedal assist sytem, which is lightly powered

3-23-2012 Today this site is one month old..happy birthday I guess. I am pretty happy with how the site has come together in this month. We are doing pretty good in the google rankings and we have enough content now that I think it is a real site. I am pretty damn proud of it…although we dont yet have the audience I want. I still have no idea why I am doing all this and have no long term visions
