Felt Lebowsk-e Fat Ebike Review

Editor Note: This review posted with permission from The New Wheel, a really good electric bike shop in San Francisco owned and operated by true believers in the electric bike revolution.   Over the past year I’ve had the pleasure of riding most of the ebikes that can be found at The New Wheel. The Felt Lebowsk-e stands alone as the most unique experience I’ve had so far. It’s enormous 4″ wide, 26″ tires make it’s presence known: it’s truly a

Peugeot eDL-132, exotic French concept E-bike

The Peugeot eDL-132 mid-drive electric bicycle is a gorgeous example of a car company that wants to get some publicity with the growing trend of cars and motorcycles adding an electric-drive to their model line. Over the past decade, it has been rare for me to see any evidence of a Peugeot outside of France and the European Union (EU), but two years ago, the French company Peugeot decided to start making some bold moves, which would be needed if

Piaggio’s new mid drive

The name of Piaggio is not well-known in North America, but they are a well-established brand in Europe. This Iconic Italian company has been slow to commit to a significant electric bike, but their history shows that they are serious about this new product. They revealed this new model on the 4th of November at the EICMA 72nd International Motorcycle Exhibition in Milan, Italy. ____________________________________________________ The History of Piaggio After the devastation of WWII, Piaggio switched from producing aircraft parts to

Siemprenbici, off-road mid drives from Spain

This E-bike is designed to be very light, and every design choice that was made has been carefully considered to ensure that the final product remained very light. This is a very strong full-suspension frame that is made from carbon fiber, so there is no way to make something like this affordable…it is a premium product that will be expensive. The drive system provides a modest 600W of assistance. Most countries in the European Union (EU) have a 250W power

Yamaha YPJ-01, a light mid-drive road bike

Yamaha was one of the early adopters of electric bikes. In fact, they invented the term “PAS” in 1993, which stands for Pedal Assist System. This is where the rider doesn’t use a hand-throttle, but by simply pedaling with your feet, the bike will add some power. Depending on the level of power-assist you dial-in, you can be going very fast with almost no physical strain.     PAS systems are not only popular in many parts of the world,

Qulbix Raptor, Offroad Hot Rod Electric Bike

The Qulbix Raptor is a high-performance E-bike frame that is made to allow a very large battery pack, and a very high-powered rear hub-motor. We’ve been wanting to write about the Raptor for some time, and since they just recently changed their company name from Torque to Qulbix, that makes this month a good time to finally delve into the details. Note: the “Qulbix” name was developed to have something that is very different than any other name out there.

Surain Ezekiel, off-road Electric Bike from Belgium

A friend just sent me a link to this new E-bike, from Surain in Belgium (near the northern border of France). Sooner or later, this interesting off-road E-bike will be compared to a Stealth Fighter, and we will be looking for information about the details to see how it stacks up. These guys are familiar with the level of performance needed to make an E-bike significant, because they also make an electric motorcycle. They are off to a good start

Outrider USA, Electric Trike Review

Three recent college graduates with a shop in Fletcher  North Carolina have taken on the task of offering one of the most exciting and expensive electric bikes on the market. But instead of just building an electric bike, these guys have chosen a platform that few companies are willing to try…the tadpole recumbent trike. Recently, these 3 guys (Jesse, Tommy, and Daniel) built a custom trailer and headed out west to California, where I got a chance to meet with

Stromer ST1 Ebike Review

The Stromer ST1 is one of the most exciting electric bikes to be released and one of the best production ebikes I have gotten to test so far.  A complete redesign from last years bike, the Stromer ST1 sports higher quality components than last year’s Stromer, and a price tag of $3,500-$4,000.  For this extra price you are getting a boat load of special features including: Magura hydraulic brakes, regenerative braking, carbon forks, purpose built frame, torque sensor, and all around quality
