March, 2012

So on this date of March 10th I will take a look and evaluate the e-bikes on ebay, looking for bargains and ripoffs.

Look at our recent article on help on how to find a bargain ($1,000) e-bike on ebay: click here

On first look two companies are choosing as a market strategy to flood the electric bike section with adds so its hard to see any other options for bikes. These two companies are High Power Cycles and Pedago who have strung up a bunch of adds . In case of high power cycles they do not have these bikes in stock (each bike is built as it is ordered.)  Shame on HPC and Pedego for their ebay spam campaigns. Its hard enough to find a nice electric bike on ebay, harder now with the spam.

So with no further ado lets go to ebay and from top to lowest try to find whats the bargains and what are total rip offs the buy should avoid.

Starting on the high end, lets take a look at the High Power Cycles $9,0000 rip off bike:

HPC F1 TORNADO ELECTRIC 26

  1. Hi, Appreciate your site. However, I’ve reached an age and health condition where my balance is not so good. Can you recommend a good brand of electric trike under $2,000?
    Many thanks,
    Tony

    • HI Tony, sorry to hear about your condition. I tihnk a good option for you might be the currie izip trike like this one http://www.walmart.com/ip/2007-I-Zip-Tricruiser-Electric-Tricycle/5692925

However make sure you find one with lithium batteries or pay the upgrade price and just buy them. Lead acid batteries are heavy and inconvenient.

THe currie uses a reliable drive system that isnt bad in this application. Your other option is just look on ebay for a suitable trike with a descent hub motor and lithium battery. For under $2000 you should get a really good trike. The only option will be a front wheel drive trike and make sure it has steel forks (not aluminum). Look for something at leaast 36 volts, and make sure you get atleast 10ah of lithium battery. I would prefer a geared hub motor if you can find one..also if you want to go with something completely over the top cool google ffr trikes…you could dial one of those down and still have an amazing 25mph machine…outside of your price range however. If i were you i would live a little and invest in a ffr trike, which is also a thing of beauty that will wow your neighbors.
