March 18,2012. A Zero Mx Electric Motorcycle competed in the open class against gas powered motorcross cycles in the Hollister Hills California Ama Phantom Hare Scramble.
When you see this video you will see the advantage of the smooth unstallable torque of electric vs gassers, as you watch the video you will see a wasteland of stalled gassers that the highly skilled Zero factory rider Trevor Doniak steers around like cones.
Unfortunately the Zero motorcycle ran out of battery before finishing the race, but as you can see in the video it was total domination until the Zero died. The new zero’s will have a new battery technology that will give them 116 miles on a single charge (in non racing conditions) Unfortunately Zero does not have the new battery packs yet designed by e-bike guru Liveforphysics.
The Zero motorcycle team has been dominating recent races against not only other electric motorcycles but powerful gas powered bikes as well.
It just goes to show what the future of motocross racing might look like….electrics make a lot of sense given that they are quieter, better on the environment, and faster.
