The German made Grace Ebike is simplistic in design and yet beautiful in its simplicity.

A bion-x hub motor pumped up to 1300 watts drives the bikes at speeds of up to 35mph.

The bike features a cnc frame wtih the batteries built into the bike frame tubing.  A slick belt drive (but single speed), a custom front headlight, a motorcycle style center kick stand, and nice bicycle components all the way around.

Recently Grace teamed up with Mercedes benz and the folks at Smart Car to build the new Smart Ebike.

You can see how much of the smart e-bike  was developed through ideas in the Grace urban Ebike.

The Grace Urban Ebike was a hard sale starting at $8500. Time will tell if the Smart Ebike will sell better at the $3800 price mark.

Eric has been involved in the electric bike industry since 2002 when he started a 6000 square foot brick and mortar Electric Bike store in downtown San Francisco. He is a true believer that small electric vehicles can change the way we operate and the way we think.

I really like the simplicity and clean design of the Grace One but todays test ride left me a bit, hmm, underwhelmed. Maybe the battery was a bit flat. The measly 250W geared hub in my recumbent has a similar if not slightly better acceleration and similar top speed (with half empty 48V battery).
The ELMOTO felt great but is underpowered as well. There was definatly something missing in the current department with both bikes. Nice bikes non the less.

SMART ELECTRIC BIKE’s available in the parts department of most Mercedes Benz dealerships across Canada and in Portland (hip city) Oregon last time I checked. Very pleased with over 1000 km on my SMART bike. Zero problems so far. Upgraded the stock seat and pedals to better suit me and added the handlebar mounted assist/regen option for safety and comfort. No worries of on going support because … It’s a Mercedes.
